Born in Los Angeles, Brandon James' designs toe the line between streetwear and high-fashion. That might've been gleaned from a childhood spent in East Los Angeles. You can thank Brandon James for the current trend of high-fashion with an undeniable street appeal.

 

Brandon was a go-getter from a young age, from selling custom gym bags and shoes at the age of 9 to reconstructing and distressing shorts with vibrant colors in his 20’s, setting his mark in LA. As things progressed, he branched out into different designs and even beyond reconstructing and distressing. In 2015, at the age of 29, Brandon James established his own namesake label: B James.

B James brings the street element of his upbringing, the vibrant element of hip-hop in the 90’s, and the glamor element of Hollywood’s red carpet to create a new wave of fashion called Street Couture.

While his B James line gained popularity due to being featured in music videos from Nicki Minaj, modeling shoots from Bella Hadid, and getting placements in cool guy havens like Opening Ceremony by Shaun Ross, it perfectly encapsulates the current fashion climate, which is learning to embrace the high/low juxtaposition.

 

What sets Brandon's design philosophy apart from his contemporaries is the deliberate self-awareness he pours into his work, in fact, he prefers the term “Street Couture" over “Streetwear" because he feels the latter has connotations of being afraid to take risks, especially with style, while the former symbolizes turning the streets into a runway. That’s B James.
